About Sonchiraiya

"Such as our folk culture, such are our folk arts, which have been the most powerful expression of our culture since eternity, the most sacred carriers. Whatever happens in the society, the folk accepted its positive side and by molding it in their thinking arising out of a long contemplation, returned it back to the society – sometimes as a song, sometimes as a folk tradition, sometimes as a proverb, some folktale or sometimes in the form of folk staging, folk drama, folk dance. Folk acceptance is the practice of a tradition of thinking, which has the lessons of life, understanding, interest, concern. There is no restriction of classicalism in this. lt has a free flight of mind. "
The folk culture of India is its lifeforce. There is an urgent need to upgrade this lifeforce to match modernity. It is necessary that the traditional qualities of folk are integrated with the present times and taken forward like that. Keeping this need in mind, for the promotion, preservation, promotion and flourishing of Indian folk arts, folk traditions, heritage and folk literature, a social organization "Sonchiriya" was established under the guidance of the eminent artists of India.
On 8 November 2011, the then Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Shri B. L. Joshi dedicated Sonchiriya to folk. The country's famous singer and Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi ji was the Founder President of "Sonchiriya" for life. At present, the folk scholar Dr. Vidyabindu Singh is the President of the organization, and the well-known folk singer Padmashree, Malini Awasthi is the Founder Secretary of the institution. Many personalities from the field of art are also associated with the organization.
For the first time in the country, Sonchiriya started a national award “Lok Nirmala'' for women folk artists, which has been awarded by the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath for the last two years. This award has been presented to Padma Vibhushan Teejanbai Ji and Kalbelia artist Padmashree Gulabo. For the last ten years, Sonchiriya has been working relentlessly for the preservation and promotion of various folk arts of India. Many efforts are going on continuously for the restoration of folk arts with artists in different areas across the country. Through many workshops, programs, events and seminars in remote rural areas, folk arts are brought to relevance to the society and especially the youth.
Work is also underway on a big plan to present the folk colors of the country in a new form on the world stage.
