In today's time, the voice of folk music that resonates most loudly in your ears, one who has the most important role in making folk music the familiar squeal in the courtyards and bringing the sacred culture of India to the youth, a face who is synonymous with great folk traditions of India- that is- Malini Awasthi.

Malini Awasthi, the dearest student of Padma Vibhushan awardee, an erudite singer Late Girijadevi, took formal education in music from many teachers. After learning the basics of classical music, she was the one who realised and showed a beautiful balance of that with the earthiness of the folk music. Kajri, Dadra, Sohar, Banna, Jhula And Holi, Chaiti or Nirguna – the one who by giving an effective presentation of these old singing styles in a new way, gave prominence to new experiments in folk music.

The credit for the restoration of folk music among the youth also goes to Malini Awasthi, due to whose efforts today the youth have again started connecting with the sweet smell of folk songs and folk arts associated with their motherland. Be it Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Kashika or Braj and Bundelkhandi, any or every region smiles when she lends her voice to it. The one whose name erupts spontaneously from the millions of throats by just hearing these three words -‘Saiyyan mile larkaiyaan’.

Awarded Padmashri by the Government of India…Who has been honored with Yash Bharati, Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi and Madhya Pradesh's National Goddess Ahilya Award. For the tribal and folk art across the country to flourish, Malini Awasthi is doing remarkable work through her organization “Sonchiriya”.

Today Malini Awasthi is widely heard in the world ranging from classical singing to singing in the films. The love for studies took her to the educational corridors of Banaras Hindu University and Jawaharlal Nehru University and the one who is associated with prestigious institutions like Sangeet Natak Akademi, UNESCO and Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
